The name Shea-mu (pronounced Shay-myou) comes from
the high concentration of Shea Butter and Emu Oil. The product is 100% natural.
It contains Organic Shea Butter, Triple Refined Emu Oil, Hemp Seed Oil, Natural
Vitamin E, Beeswax, Essential Oils of Thyme, Rosemary, Lavender and Cedarwood.
When massaged into the scalp and left to penetrate, the product encourages
faster, healthier hair growth. It also clears up scalp conditions such a
dermatitis and eczema. Can be used on newborns to remedy cradle cap.
How to use it: Warm a pea-sized
amount between your hands to melt the product, then massage into your scalp.
Leave on overnight and shampoo out in the morning. Can be used daily. (The
product is a potent hair growth formula yet is gentle enough to be used on
newborns, and has been used to successfully combat cradle cap).
How can I use it to grow long hair?
Growing long hair is a two-fold process. First, you have to get hair to grow,
then you have to keep it from breaking off. Shea-mu Hair Butter tackles the
issue from both sides. First, emu oil penetrates the scalp carrying with it
nourishing essential oils of thyme, rosemary, lavender and cedarwood to the
hair's root to stimulate growth. Second, the product's natural conditioners keep
hair growth nourished and supple so that it will never become brittle or weak.
When and what results can I expect?
It takes approximately three months to see an improvement in hair growth and
health. Healthy hair grows an average of 1/2" per month, yet many peoples' hair
grows slower due to a lack of nutrients at the root. Shea-mu Hair Butter
properly nourishes the root and encourages at least 1/2" of healthier, more
robust hair growth each month.
What Shea-mu Hair Butter Can't Do:
The ingredients in Shea-mu Hair Butter have been shown to improve the growth and
health of living hair follicles. Unfortunately, no product yet discovered will
regenerate dead or non-existent hair follicles.
What is Shea Butter? Shea Butter
comes from the African Karite Tree. It is highly emollient and rich in Essential
Fatty Acids, which makes it an excellent hair and scalp conditioner. It also has
natural sunscreen ability. Our Shea Butter is Certified Organic and comes from
Ghana (Africa) where Longhairlovers is involved with Fair Trade Practices with
the people who produce the ingredient.
What about the other ingredients in the
product? We use Hemp Seed Oil for its high levels of Essential Fatty
Acids, which makes it an excellent hair and scalp conditioner. We also use
Natural Vitamin E for the powerful anti-oxidant protection it provides to the
hair and scalp. (Natural Vitamin E has four times the antioxidant levels of the
synthetic version). Beeswax acts as a natural emulsifier (to hold the product
together in a solid form).
Instructions for scalp massage: Warm
a dollop of our emu oil hair treatment between hands to melt, then use the tips
of your fingers in a circular motion to massage into your scalp. Scalp massage
pressure should be firm but never painful. Leave on overnight before shampooing
in the morning.

A Statement of Ingredients and
Environmental Impact from Longhairlovers
Longhairlovers Luxe products are mixed and bottled
by hand using the most natural, organic ingredients possible. We believe in
using natural, organic ingredients in our hair care products because the scalp
is porous, (it's skin, after all), and it's able to carry ingredients directly
to the bloodstream. You wouldn't eat
products with sulfates, parabens, petrochemicals or silicones, and you shouldn't
put them on your hair, either.
We've gone one step further and have banned the use
of artificial colors and fragrances in our products because they can cause
allergic reactions in some people. Why
we're not vegan Just like the Native Americans before us, we believe certain
animal products can be extremely beneficial to the human race as long as they're
created and used with respect. The animal products we use in our hair
care include silk amino acids, marine collagen, and fully refined emu oil - all
fantastic ingredients for promoting healthy hair growth.
The emu oil we source comes from AEA
Certified (American Emu Association) farms. This means the conditions under
which the emus live are healthy, clean and spacious. The emus are treated with
respect and love by their handlers and we are thankful to them for their
miraculous oil.
Fatty Alcohols We get many questions
about two fatty alcohols that appear in our conditioners: cetearyl alcohol and
benzyl alcohol. These are not the "drying" alcohols you may think of. Instead,
they are lubricants and emollients that help bind water in the hair to prevent
frizz and give a soft, velvety texture.
Certifications The majority of the
ingredients we use are certified by one or more of the following entities:
Oregon Tilth Certified Organic Ecocert Certified Organic USDA Certified Organic
OQK Certified Kosher American Emu Association Certified Transfair Fair Trade
Certified
Fragrance Notes The only synthetic
fragrance ingredients we use appear in our Crowning Glory Perfume. Synthetic
Musk and Synthetic Civet are humane alternatives to the real things, which have
been traditionally extracted from the Musk Deer and the Civet Cat, respectively.
Packaging We use minimal packaging
for our products including post-consumer recycled plastic for our shampoo &
conditioner bottles. Our Shea-mu Hair Butter is packaged in recycled glass jars,
while our Shea-mu Shampoo Bars are wrapped in a clear vegetable cellulose bag
that's completely biodegradable.
