Good For Your Hair - Good For Your Planet -
Longhairlovers Shea-mu Solid Shampoo Bar is a healthy hair twist on traditional
solid soap shampoos.
For one thing, the bar is transparent, which means
it's extra mild and fortified with hydrating glycerine. It leaves hair's natural
oils in place since it's sulfate-free
(that means no detergents). It contains natural healing oils & essential
oils that nourish the hair and scalp. The name Shea-mu (pronounced Shay-myou)
comes from the high concentration of Shea Butter and Emu Oil. And it's
completely biodegradable with minimal packaging to pollute the earth.
All-in-all, it's the perfect combination for people
with extra dry or processed hair who don't want to worry about spills when
traveling and who are concerned with keeping plastic bottles out of landfills.
Compare to other solid shampoo bars on the market -Longhairlovers
Shea-mu Solid Shampoo Bars contain Hydrolized Wheat Protein and Dl-Panthenol -
two essential nutrients for healthy hair. The popular shampoo bar by J.R.
Liggett contains no proteins or Pro-Vitamin B5. Longhairlovers Shea-mu Solid
Shampoo Bars contain no sulfates. Shampoo bars by Lush Cosmetics contain Sodium
Lauryl Sulfate and other chemicals
How it's made. First, 100%
natural oils of Palm, Coconut, Castor, Emu & Shea are melted and hand mixed with
a lye solution (caustic soda & distilled water) that turns the healing oils into
soap ("saponification"). Then organic ethanol, vegetable glycerin, and a sucrose
solution (sugar and water) are added and allowed to boil for several hours. The
ethanol completely evaporates out of the mixture, leaving behind a mild,
moisturizing, and transparent soap base.
To further the soap's mildness Apple Cider Vinegar
is then added as well as hair-nourishing Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein & Dl-Panthenol,
as well as hair growth-promoting essential oils of Lavendar, Cedarwood, Rosemary
and Thyme. The solution is poured into molds and hand cut into bars once it
firms up. The bars then "cure" for several weeks to form a hard, clear, and very
mild shampoo bar. At the end of the curing process, there is absolutely no lye
or ethanol left in the shampoo bar.
Eco-Friendly Minimal Packaging The
Solid Shampoo Bar is packaged in a clear vegetable cellulose bag that's
completely biodegradable.

A Statement of Ingredients and
Environmental Impact from Longhairlovers
Longhairlovers Luxe products are mixed and bottled
by hand using the most natural, organic ingredients possible. We believe in
using natural, organic ingredients in our hair care products because the scalp
is porous, (it's skin, after all), and it's able to carry ingredients directly
to the bloodstream. You wouldn't eat
products with sulfates, parabens, petrochemicals or silicones, and you shouldn't
put them on your hair, either.
We've gone one step further and have banned the use
of artificial colors and fragrances in our products because they can cause
allergic reactions in some people. Why
we're not vegan Just like the Native Americans before us, we believe certain
animal products can be extremely beneficial to the human race as long as they're
created and used with respect. The animal products we use in our hair
care include silk amino acids, marine collagen, and fully refined emu oil - all
fantastic ingredients for promoting healthy hair growth.
The emu oil we source comes from AEA
Certified (American Emu Association) farms. This means the conditions under
which the emus live are healthy, clean and spacious. The emus are treated with
respect and love by their handlers and we are thankful to them for their
miraculous oil.
Fatty Alcohols We get many questions
about two fatty alcohols that appear in our conditioners: cetearyl alcohol and
benzyl alcohol. These are not the "drying" alcohols you may think of. Instead,
they are lubricants and emollients that help bind water in the hair to prevent
frizz and give a soft, velvety texture.
Certifications The majority of the
ingredients we use are certified by one or more of the following entities:
Oregon Tilth Certified Organic Ecocert Certified Organic USDA Certified Organic
OQK Certified Kosher American Emu Association Certified Transfair Fair Trade
Certified
Fragrance Notes The only synthetic
fragrance ingredients we use appear in our Crowning Glory Perfume. Synthetic
Musk and Synthetic Civet are humane alternatives to the real things, which have
been traditionally extracted from the Musk Deer and the Civet Cat, respectively.
Packaging We use minimal packaging
for our products including post-consumer recycled plastic for our shampoo &
conditioner bottles. Our Shea-mu Hair Butter is packaged in recycled glass jars,
while our Shea-mu Shampoo Bars are wrapped in a clear vegetable cellulose bag
that's completely biodegradable.
